Requirements to Obtain an Australian Student Visa

Australia is one of the most popular destinations worldwide for international students. It delivers internationally recognized education at a low cost, with the government providing scholarships to qualified candidates. And for this, you need to maintain all the requirements to obtain an Australian Student Visa.

Top-ranked universities, cultural diversity, and other factors are among the key reasons why many students choose to continue their education in Australia.

You need to prove to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection that you meet all the visa requirements so that you get accepted for a Student Visa in Australia.

This blog will cover the requirements needed to apply for the visa briefly.

Genuine Temporary Entrant Requirement (GTE)

Since November 2011, GTE expects candidates to prove that they only plan to stay in Australia for study or as a dependant or guardian, to accompany a student. The factors DIBP will be considering are listed below:

Your home country’s circumstances

The chance for you to be in a difficult situation in Australia

Your immigration background

Your selected course’s worth and relevance to your future

Any additional pertinent issues

You may be required to attend an interview at an Australian embassy near you to see if you fit the GTE requirements.

English Language Proficiency

If you belong to a non-English speaking nation, you will have to prove that you have a sufficient understanding of English. There are several examinations to establish your English speaking, listening, writing, and reading capabilities, including the PTE, TOEFL, IELTS, and CAE. The score requirements depend on the university you are applying to or the course type you are pursuing.

Financial Requirements

Another evidence you need to show to get a student visa is that you have enough funds to cover your tuition, travel and living expenses. You must be able to establish that you have AUD 19, 830 for a year. If you have any dependents, you will also need to present proof that you can afford their living expenses.

If you are an eligible student applying for scholarships will also be a great help financially.

Health Requirements

To prove you are in excellent health, you may be asked to undertake a medical or radiological examination. So, you must make an appointment with an Australian Immigration Department-approved doctor.

It is a compulsion to purchase Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students to maintain health insurance for as long as your stay.  An individual will need OSHC before applying for Australian Student visas.

Character Requirements

Authorities check to see if you have a significant criminal past to guarantee that you have a decent character. A criminal clearance certificate or a police statement may be required. It’s also possible that you’ll be required to fill out a Character Statutory Declaration Form.
